Dee Mainali has a passion for dismantling barriers instituted by systems of oppression in order to create equitable access to healthcare around the world. While larger systemic changes need to occur on a societal level, Dee’s anthropological background has led them to pursuing medical school as a way to challenge and transform the often-hierarchical medical space into one of health equity through a personal and care-centered approach. Dee’s academic interests are centered around how biological and sociocultural factors intersect with medicine to impact quality of life. This is reflected in their previous work with the InterAmerican Development Bank and the Keller Center, using ethnographic methods to analyze qualitative data for marginalized populations. Dee will continue advocating for and promoting accessible, educational, and equitable healthcare with the Nepal Organ Donation Foundation such that every person who suffers from organ failure has the opportunity to receive an organ that could save them.
